Each parcel in air freight should have proper labeling on it showing the AWB number, origin, destination, total number of pieces, weight of this parcel, transit station(s) and few other information. It may have a barcode having the full information on it that is used in airports having automatic sorters and machines.
This label or tag will also help other stations to easily find misplaced found cargo and send them back to the related stations/Carrier.
Labeling should be the responsibility of the shipper. Shipper should identify the cargo by receiving labels of the parcels from Carrier or his Agent. There are different other labels like “This Way Up”, “Fragile” or Dangerous Goods labels that should be affixed to each parcel as a guide for airline and GHA staff.
